Nigel to stand down as party leader...
A slam on the brakes as Reform party chief says he has had enough
Nigel Farage says he is to stand down as party leader and will trigger a by-election in the seat he won in Clacton South.
He has proved one of the most popular politic figures in the UK but has recently faced questions about funding and in particular a donation of £5m.
Here’s the main points:
He became an MP at the election two years ago, capitalising on public antipathy to the European Union.
He finally won a seat in Parliament at the eighth attempt - including South Thanet - where he was outflanked by a coalition of other parties.
He says he has done nothing wrong and has kept to the rules on party donations.
There was a strong defence of the party and says had he has worked hard to earn a living.
At a press conference, he says the cabinet ‘hasn’t a clue’ about the business world.
And he says he has been assaulted more times than anyone he knew and was ritually assaulted online.
But he says that the attacks on him have been extended to members of his family.
“I have never been angrier in my life,” he said.
On the forthcoming election, he says voters will get the chance to vote for someone who will deliver what they voted for in 2025.
